Having such long hair can often just be seen as one massive chore. The only time I start to think it looks anywhere near decent is after someone else has blow-dried or styled it. I often have stylists tell me I have the best hair for working on. If only it was as easy to style myself! I have considered getting the chop a number of times already this year, and every time I talk myself out of it, and realise that I am very lucky to have so much hair, and it’s taken me a bloomin’ long time for it to get to the length it’s at now. It would be one of those spontaneous decisions that could swing either way. I’d either love it, or hate it. In the meantime, I’ve decided to try and do more with my hair, that isn’t just “whacking it up in a ponytail or a messy bun” – Having said that, I do still love those styles and will continue to do them, but maybe just as a fall back. I recently decided to plait both sides of my hair and bring the plaits over each side of my head to form something called a “Milkmaid Braid”. I think the last time I attempted this I was about 14. I actually really liked it! I know that I could probably use some practise when it comes to securing it and hiding the hair pins but if you are ever stuck for an idea, or your long hair is getting in the way, try something as simple as this! I will be doing a tutorial of this at some point on my YouTube channel for those of you want me to, so stay tuned for that! In the meantime though, I’d love to see your braid creations to get me all inspired.

  14. My hair is about the same length as yours and it's such a shame that I basically suck at every hairstyle, I can't even do a simple French braid. I consider chopping it at least once a day, but at the same time I just love having long hair way too much! So I really enjoy it when you do hair tutorials on rather simple styles, that get all that hair out of the way. I have even been able to master the halo braid by now :p

  17. I love this braid! I just wish my hair was long enough to give it a try. I tried your other tutorial last night, the one with the smaller braids and my hair is just a tiny bit too short. I had long hair for my wedding and cut it short straight after, biggest mistake of my life! Don't cut off your hair, its beautiful! x

I would love to be able to do things like this with my hair, but because it's ultra fine, it's either down and straight or up in a ponytail. I'm really not very adventurous or very artistic when it comes to my hair.

    My hair is fairly long now, but I'm getting it cut in a few days to just below my shoulders. It's so much easier to handle when it's shorter because it's SO thick and naturally curly, and I feel like shorter hair suits me a lot more.

  59. I think you would look gorgeous with shorter hair! However, I think it is a very smart move to be a little more adventurous with different hairstyles first. But if you ever decide to actually cut your hair, start slowly! Trust me, the process of getting used to it is much more easy that way and you can always go shorter later on if you want to! :)

    I agree, she shouldn't cut her hair! It is so hard to grow long again. I tried her other braid tutorial right as it came out, and it worked! But then I cut my hair and now it is just a teensy bit to short and thin to work :(

  150. I would love to have your hair. Its gorgeous! Mines really thin so I can only grow it out so far until it starts to look ragedy. If you were going to get it cut I would say start by cutting off a little at a time so you could stop whenever you decided you didnt want to go any shorter

  190. at the moment i kind of feel the same with my hair and it gets so tangled i don't want to leave it down. instead of just chucking it back, i've been french plaiting it either in one or two either side just to keep it out the way and keep it from getting to that dreadlock phase. it makes life so much easier and i actually really like it!

    Your hair would probably feel a whole lot healthier if you chopped it – I had my super long hair chopped to shoulder length last year, and it's so much easier to style, plus no neck pain!

  209. I can sympathize with your long hair troubles. I find that I have to sweep all the time because I'm shedding everywhere (my hair reaches my tailbone), it takes forever to dry, and a pain to style (especially if you want to curl it). But it looks great on you and you always have more options to go short vs having to get extensions if you wanted to go long

  291. Have you checked out Lilith Moon on YouTube? She does some amazing and simple things with her hair. I chopped all of mine off a couple of years ago and at time liked it but really, really missed my long hair. It's grown out to past shoulder length now and with the help of Lilith's tutorials I can do quick styles I never thought I could do before. Anyway love the milk braids, can't wait until my hair is long enough to do this style!

    Shuffling along in the line, she thinks. She thinks of how this could most possibly become the best day of her life. She thinks of how happy this will make her, throughout all the dark times she’d been going through. Looking at the fading cuts on her wrists, she beams inside. Excited screams erupt; she knows they’re coming out now. She stands there for a moment, the scene processing in her head. Peering over all of the heads in front of her, she sees her four superheroes. They’re so close to her it almost doesn’t seem real. She can see the deep red and black hair of the one called Michael, the black as night lip piercing of the ecstatic one called Luke, the one called Ashton who had a smile equivalent to a thousand suns and cavernous dimples, and the loving brown eyes of the one called Calum. As they make their way onto the stage, the line begins to move. “This is it”, she thinks to herself. She was finally going to meet her idols, her favorite band, her mentors, her everything. A group of eager girls are the first to meet them, cupping their hands over their mouths to prevent themselves from getting too emotional. She sees that most everyone is with at least one other person, but she’s not. She’s been alone her whole life, why change now? Minutes pass, and her turn soon comes around. They’re right in front of her now with bright faces, waiting for her to approach. She stands in front of them, too emotional to do anything. Her mouth doesn’t speak, but her eyes do.     I cut my hair into a pixie cut when it was really long because I started getting a lot of hair fall – now I use a product called Mane n Tail and it is divine!! I should never have cut off my hair and really hope you decide to keep yours xx

  570. I've had long hair for almost all of my life! My mom would never let me cut my hair short because she wanted me to have a beautiful updo for my quinceanera (like a sweet 16 but in hispanic culture). But once my Quinceanera was over I cut my hair up to my shoulders! I loved it cause I didn't have to do anything to my hair! But now I've let it grow again and I'm still too lazy to do anything to it, so when I get out of the shower I just let it dry, good thing my hair is naturally straight! I love your hairstyles I'm just too lazy to do it on my own hair cause my hair is really heavy :(

  790. I used to do this with my hair back when it was long. Then I got bored with it always being up in a ponytail and ended up chopping it into a pixie which I loved.   805. This is an amazing post! And although I do not have long hair, I can understand why it would be difficult to control it most of the time! But it is beautiful so it must be worth it :) I have wanted to grow mine out for years now and I still have no look getting it anywhere close to how beautiful yours is, but I will try this hairstyle regardless!

I had my hair like that when I was much younger and in primary school once for World Book Day.
