Origins Super Spot Remover £12*

I don’t often review individual products on my blog, although it’s definitely something I am now going to start doing because I always find myself searching for specific products reviewed on blogs before I consider buying them (I value bloggers honesty when it comes to reviews). So, without further a do, I shall get cracking with this one!

I was sent this product a long time ago, and had completely forgotten it existed beneath the mountains of skincare products I seem to be hoarding. It’s a tiny little blue bottle, only containing 10ml. You may think this is a measly amount, but I have been using this constantly for around 2 months and it just doesn’t seem to disappear. This spot gel is essentially for those pesky breakouts you may experience. I personally get a few around my chin and my nose just before that time of the month (oh mother nature, how I love thee). Origins claim that this spot remover heals, fights and fades spots and I have to agree 100%. I have used many spot gels and creams in the past, but nothing that really worked in the same way as this. It contains salicylic acid which instantly helps heal, while “anti spot technology” (who knows what that is) helps to correct post blemish marks. It also contains caffeine and red algae to help relieve redness. To help keep skin looking spotless it also has super exfoliants to keep dead skin cells at bay and to ensure the skin is clear of clogged pores.

I usually pop a tiny amount of this on any little spots that start to creep up on me and I notice that the spot either disappears completely after around 2 days or is somewhat dulled. I recently had an awful breakout on my chin, so used this at every opportunity I got throughout the day, and it helped dramatically. It is a gel, so feels very cooling on the skin and dries almost instantly. It doesn’t feel too tight once dry, but does feel a little tighter than if you were to use a cream. I like the slight tightness, as I feel it’s drying out/killing off my spot. I also found that applying makeup over the gel once dried was absolutely no problem. I also use it after the spot has vanished, just to speed up the post blemish healing process (as my spots always leave nasty red marks for weeks on end) and I’ve noticed that it helps with that too.

If you are looking for a product just to target spots once they’ve invaded, I would definitely suggest this! Of course we all spend money on skincare to try and prevent them from attacking but sometimes you have to come up with a plan b once they’ve pushed their way through!

Have you used any specific spot treatments? Have you found any to be effective?

  1. Normally my skins clear, but I've recently had a sudden outbreak of spots! This sounds like a great product. I've never heard of this brand before either, I'll give it a go :)

Thanks for the tip and great review!

    Laura xx

  2. I definitely need this in my life, my skin hates me at the moment!x

  3. This sounds really interesting, I am always wary of 'spot treatments' as all the ones i have used never seen to work, however i may give this a go :)

    Jess x

  4. I love this stuff! It's the holy grail of all spot treatments =)
    Erin xx

  5. Jordan

Wow that stuff sounds amazing! And it's only £12 and to think about it it's not that much being as it actually works, I use dermologica microfoliant and it's costs £40 for a small pot! Definitly going to switch to this, thanks for sharing!

  6. Great review :)! I do love Origins products, but actually my spot treatment of choice comes from Boots own brand :O! It is the 2 hour spot gel (found in the young skincare/acne section) in a blue/silver box. The tube is white with red and blue writing on it. Infact, I may do a review :)… literally within a couple hours the swelling and redness has gone down!

  7. Oh wow, this sounds lovely. Hopefully I can buy this Australia or somewhere online that ships to Australia!

Stop by and check out my blog giveaway! :)

  8. Sounds really good, I have tried numerous creams that claim to make spots disappear but none have been very good. I think I'll definitely give this a go! x

  9. Sounds amazing! I used to get really bad spots that reduced to scarring so I use a pharmaceutical product, Benzac AC. It does contain peroxide (oops) but it works for me, but I still do have some scarring so I use bio-oil to help if fade.

  10. Laura

Great review, very informative! i think £12 is a little out of my budget for a spot treatment, but it still looks fantastic and i really want to try it! http://laurasadaydreamer.blogspot.co.uk/

  11. wow looks good! i dont use anything for my spots haha should think about it!

  12. This one seems promising. I have tried many spot creams in the past and the only one that worked me is the La Roche one. I dont have many spots, but I think i'm gonna try this once (hopefully not) a spot is starting to grow.

    Great review!

ooh i might have to invest in this! i have been using freederm's spot treatment gel for a while now which seems to work for me, but i will definitely keep this in mind for the future!

  14. I just find having a decent and regular skin care routine helps to keep my skin clear :) this seems like a nifty little product though!

  15. Ah I really want to try this out! I always use trusty sudocrem!

  16. I think I am definitely going to treat myself to this…I've been on the lookout for an effective spot treatment for about three or four years without much success!

  17. We don't have Origins here so what I use on zits is Avene Triacneal. It's a killer!

  18. do you know where i could buy it from? think i need me some of this! x

  19. Ooh would definitely like to give this a try. Even with the 'good' skincare routine and acne gel prescribed by my doctor, I still get the odd annoying spot that seems to remain for weeks, then I'm left with a mark for weeks/months after that. Thanks for posting : )

  20. Izzy

This is a great review! I hadn't really thought about this product before, although I've seen it a lot, but I defiantly want to try it out now!:)xox

  21. Becky

I swear by this product ever since Anna mentioned it in a video. It really does what it says. I agree that it is pricey for what you get but you are spot on (pun not intended :-)) when you say it lasts forever. I have been using this almost every other night for 2-3 months and have hardly touched it, you only need to smallest amount. I also like the fact you get a bit of a 'sting' when you use it which in my opinion means that its doing its job.

  22. Jess

I would love to try this product, as by reading what you've said it sounds like it does a bloody good job, I just don't think I could justify spending a large amount on a tiny product .. but then I suppose it does last a long time. I've tried so many spot gels/creams/treatments for those pesky breakouts, I quite liked the witch blemish stick which seemed to help but it's a bit of a unhygenic application as its like a twist up lipbalm kinda style. Damn spots.
    Jess xo

  23. I have this! stings something rotten on raised spots! but I feel like that must mean it's working even if I have to grit my teeth :P
I've found I still have the red marks for a long time after though, but I use REN resurfacing AHA concentrate as a exfoliant and that helps! :) (like liquid gold)
    xo

  24. I haven´t try it but it sounds great, having one at the bathroom just in case! thanks for sharing!

  25. that sounds amazing :) I will check it out and give it a try. It's so annoying that many anti-spot products
    aren't very good.

  31. I actually really like the Simple Rapid Action Spot Stick thingy, it's really effective and pretty cheap :D I love it so much I wrote a post like, singing it's praises. OBSSESSED <3

  32. I break out a fair bit and use the Mario Badescu drying lotion, but the calamine sometimes annoys me when I have to scrub it off in the morning. I've heard lots of good things about Origins lately :)

I love the Lush Grease Lightning spot treatment. I use it before bed on any evil spots and it relieves the pain and makes them smaller. It also has all the natural essentials anti bacterial's to get rid of spots. :)

  36. Josie

I absolutely swear by this product! After a couple of months use I thought I'd leave my skin alone and see if new spots disappeared but it was so slow that I went back to this! It's great for redness around the nose too x

  47. Sounds good, who doesn't need a product like this!?
Good to know you will be doing individual product reviews as I find them really helpful, and like you, I always do my 'homework' before buying more expensive items these days, as it's so annoying to splash out on something only to find it's useless.

  49. Ellie

i love it when you post zoe your writing style is just so easy and fun to read :) i have a little list of things i want to pick up from origins when i finally make my order and i think this might have to go on their now :) Thankyou xoxo

  50. I love this to, it works so well!x

  51. Haha I will try it out! :)

  52. I've been thinking about trying this lately – for some reason I've started to get a few annoying little spots. It must be that my skin doesn't like one of the products I'm using but I'm struggling to figure out which it is :(

Great post and fab to hear you're going to do more reviews like this.

    Gem xx flutterandsparkle.com

  53. Agreed, blogs are where I get most of my reviews from.

I was excited when you had posted this, I have always wanted to try Origins… however, my skin does not like salicylic acid.

    Rubiiee

  54. Aw, if it works so well, I will buy it and try it myself! I need one product like this in my skincare regime :)
Have a nice day lovely xx

    Lorraine.

  55. Oh, thanks for the review, I'll have to try this! Although my skin condition improved recently I still (despite being 30!) get an occasional spot and I've been on a lookout for a good product that won't turn my skin into an itchy red mess – sounds like this baby might be godsent!

  56. L

This sounds wonderful! I will definitely check it out next time xx

I have this and I think it definately qualifies as a "Holy Grail" product! x

  61. Thanks for this review! I don't get a lot of breakouts but they always leave red marks for months afterwards. I think this has officially been put at the top of my "To Buy" list.

  62. I really want to try this out. I've been using the Mario Badescu drying lotion and although it works really well, it dries my skin out. *sad panda*

  63. ellie

just what i need! im suffering from breakouts on my chin at the moment too.

    thank you :)

  64. I've heard some people raving about this but I never got around to pick it up. I'm not so sure about salicylic acid since I've tried other spot treatments with it as well and it never really did anything for my skin. I personally like Lush grease lightning:)
    http://www.lavenderfedora.blogspot.com

  65. Monica

My skin gets a lot of breakouts at that "time" too. I've tried other spot treatments, but they don't seem to amaze me. The ingredients sound natural and promising, and that's something I love about beauty products. I definitely want to give this one a try.

  66. debbie

This sounds like a miracle treatment! I've used my share of spot treatments, but nothing seems to work as fast as 2 days! I'm currently using Retin-A, and that's helped dramatically with fading my spots, but I'm definitely giving this a try! Thanks for the rec!!!

  69. Manuka Honey has actually proven to be the best skincare/acne fighting item for me. I use it as an overnight spot treatment and as a mask and my skin is SO much better for it! It's cheap too!

  70. ZOE! This is NOT the first time I've heard about this – I think I'm gonna have to add it to my list. I've heard so much about origins in general, but I've heard about so many things I don't know where to start!

Also, the Liquid Gold you've just bought is amazing, you can't go wrong with it (just saw on twitter). I've just done a blog and a REALLY STUPID vlog on it and some more acne/acne scarring bits if you fancy a gander <3 xx

  71. I have to admit, this is raved about so much that I am intrigued. But I very rarely have spots and when I do, it's never anything major. I might still get it a try though. Also, I would LOVE to see more individual reviews! xo

  72. bx124

Ooo definately going to find out more about this! Have you tried Manuka Honey? I brought it about a month ago and my skin has improved so much. There is a whole range of it in Holland and Barret — Not the most glamorous of shops :)

  73. Jac

Love, love, love your blog! If I have the odd spot (or patch of on the chin) I usually use benzoyl peroxide (2.5%) and apply a thin layer. Then to make sure I don't dry out I mix Olay classic moisturiser with a little jojoba oil – amazing! x

  74. I've heard so many good things about this, it's on my wish list! I usually use sudocream for my spots at night but it's always good to try something new!

    megmooandme.blogspot.com

  75. I like the Mario Badescu products, because they group them into categories for oily, dry, combo, sensitive skin conditions. The drying cream works great, priced well and when using it a little goes a long way. I combat the dryness with pure aloe gel, which moistures without clogging pores. :)
